My Parents, My No. 1 Fans!

"I have really great, great parents, who are supportive of me" ~Justine Timberlake
To say that my parents are supportive of me is an understatement! They are incredibly supportive of my Archery journey.

My dad is my No.1 fan. Even if he's many many miles away, he would always make sure he gets 'hot' updates of practices and tournaments I join. The last time I competed at the 22nd Cebu City Olympics in November, he spent a fortune calling me or Ate Fe to get updates. Mom was not around during that time that's why he had to make those calls even if I was still at the range. If mom was around, dad would be able to get updates with photos through Viber, What's App or Fring. This time, mom is with me so I'm sure Dad would get fresh updates as they would come. My mom is my other No. 1 fan! She had to sacrifice her work and filed for a leave just to be with me.

Mind you, my dad is soooo 'makulit' and he would even want to go through the juiciest details on how the arrow propelled to hit the target butt, the scores, the wind velocity... Well, it's mom's turn to address dad's 'kakulitan' this time.

Anyway, I'm so thankful of having an incredibly supportive parents and siblings. Here's dad's well-wishes for me as I start my campaign for the 30, 40, 50, and 60-meter distances of the Archery Recurve for Girls tomorrow.

Thank you dad and mom for the support. I'll do my best!

My dad's Facebook well-wishes in my quest for Archery honors in the CVIRAA 2012

Thanks too for the Smart Phone apps that offers free communication to a loved one who is hundred of miles away.

Dumaguete City Welcomes Delegates to CVIRAA 2012

Welcome to Negros Occidental

MESSAGE FROM THE SDS (Schools Division Superintendent) OF NEGROS ORIENTAL

Dayon  kamo sa Negros Oriental!

The province and the division of Negros Oriental are glad to host this year’s Central Visayas Athletic Association Meet. Our theme, CVIRAA: “Nurturing lives, Strengthening ties” is the province’s goal during this week-long event. Ang atong gobyerno nangandoy nga mapalambo ang atong pagpa-ugnat sa kusog aron ugma damlag ang atong mga kabataan, ang atong mga tinun-an makabaton sa self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry. It is through sports that as we learn the skill in kicking, spiking, throwing, we also develop analytical and critical thinking skills.

And Negros Oriental is privileged that part of the development of the potentials of our athletes happened here in our province. Sa inyong pagdula pangandoy namo nga malipay kamo sa mga pahiyom ug maayong pagtagad sa Oriental Negrenses. Being Filipinos, the warmth of our hospitality is deeply rooted in our nature. Apan...kung kamo madani sa matam-is nga pahiyom mas mulambo gayod ang atong mga koneksyon.

Through our games we all want you to develop lasting friendships and more ties across the region. Mas daghang higala, mas daghay katawa, daghang kalipay.

Busa, kaninyong tanan, dayon sa Negros Oriental, and experience camaraderie, service, and friendly competitions as you also take time to visit our historic and beautiful places. We are not here to simply compete in the games but we are here to learn more about making connections, learning new skills, and discovering our culture.

Welcome and we wish you luck in all the games. Bring home medals and trophies, but best of all bring home more smiles and friendship.

Finally, “Athlete ka ba?” [Bakit?] “kasi ang taas ng score mo sa puso ko eh.’

Let connections spark as the games begin.

The hosting of the 2012 CVIRAA Games is a prelude to the Palarong Pambansa 2013. The following video was part of the 'bid' presentation of Negros Oriental (NegOr) to host the 2012 National Games.

Island's Leisure Boutique Hotel, My Home for CVIRAA 2012

Welcome to Island's Leisure Boutique Hotel & Wellness Spa
Bethel Guest Hostel situated along the Boulevard has always been mom and dad's favourite place to stay everytime they are in Dumaguete City. So when we went to Dumaguete last August 2012 for the Silliman University Founder's Day Archery Invitational Tournament, we planned to stay at Bethel.

Since it was the first tourney that I was joining, the whole family, except for dad, was in full force to support and cheer for me. We wanted to reserve the family room so all of us can fit in. But it was fully booked because of the Founder's Day Celebration.

Mom started to look for Agoda recommended hotels in Dumaguete so we would have a place to lay our heads. She found Island's Leisure Boutique Hotel and immediately called dad to make the booking as there was only one available room available. It was booked through Agoda and true to it's name, staying at the hotel was a pleasure.

The hotel is located at Hibbard Avenue, Bantayan, Dumaguete. It is conveniently located near the city and nature is just around the corner. It is a family-run business and the care they give you is one that is personal. The staff are caring and attentive to your needs and requests.  We ate some few times at their resto and their cuisine are great too.

Another nice thing about this hotel is its interior decorations. It looks like a galleria of all sorts of artworks. You can see that the interiors are a well-blended combination of Dumaguete's traditional laid back life and culture and the rustic modernities of technology. A guest need not sneak into his luggage a small thing that attracts his fancy because if there is anything you would want from the hotel's decorations, you can have it for a reasonable price... There are posters, paintings, photoframes, and a lot more.

We had a nice experience staying at this hotel last August so mom decided that we stay here for the duration of the CVIRAA 2012. It was difficult for me to stay with the Cebu City contingent in Valencia, some 10 kms away from the city because I came 4 days later than the rest of the Cebu City Athletic contingent.

What's nice with my second visit to this hotel is  that I saw the framed photos of Kuya Kevin at the Hotel. By the way my Kuya Kevin is a freelance photographer who can snap the shoots for your prenup, portrait, or any other events. You can contact him at kevin.jethro.abad@gmail.com or you can call him at Sun +63-922-843-7490. His webpage can be found at http://www.kevinjethro.com/.

Off to Dumaguete City I go for the CVIRAA 2012...

This will be the second time I will be in Dumaguete City. I will be flying out early today with my mom as one of the archers representing Cebu City in the 2012 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association Games (CVRAA). Tita Kate Go will also be with us as she will accompany her son, Karwin Go-Perez of Ateneo Cebu, the Olympic-round gold medalist for Boys Recurve Bow during the Mandaue City Games. Karwin and I are members of the Cebu Archery Club.

The rest of the delegates from Cebu City and other nearby contingents left last November 28 yet but since my school, Cebu Normal University-Integrated Laboratory is not under Dep Ed but under CHED, I had to attend to my classes until Friday.

The first time I was in Dumaguete City was in August 24-26, 2012 when I joined the 2012 Silliman University Founder's Day Archery Invitational Tournament.

Catching up with our practice a day before flying to Dumaguete City... We do indoor in the mornings and go outdoor in the afternoons

I will be competing in the Recurve Bow for Girls - 30, 40, 50, and 60-meter events with other archers from Bais, Bayawan, Bogo, Bohol, Carcar, Cebu Province, Danao, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Naga, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Tagbilaran, Talisay, Tanjay and Toledo.

Archers from Dumaguete City have always been the perennial winners in the Archery event. But who knows, maybe it's going to be different this year.

The main venue of the CVIRAA 2012 Games is at the Mariano Perdices Sports Stadium. I still don't know where the Archery events will be held. I will have to ask around when I reach Dumaguete City today.
